The Church World Service Blankets+ Program is a worldwide effort to provide emergency supplies in the aftermath of a crisis. First blankets, then tents and food, then tools to rebuild and training for the future.
As people recover from disaster or adjust to resettlement, the blankets provide comfort, and shelter, can be used as a sunshade or provide a dry place to sit and rest. Blankets are distributed wherever they are needed and may end up on the other side of the world, or in our own community. Following the devastation of Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean and United States, Church World Service provided over 46,000 kits and blankets to aid recovery.
Church World Service is a collection of 37 different denominations, including the United Methodist Church. UMCOR relies on CWS as part of its disaster response program. Supplies are ready to go at the moment they are needed.
If you would like to know more about Church World Service, check out the CWS website at cwsglobal.org or visit UMCOR's website at UMCOR.org. The blankets program is assigned UMCOR Advance #982810.
Please plan to pin your donation to our sample blanket on August 18, or take an envelope to contribute later, or bring a blanket to be used locally.
